This College was established in the year 1951, the only and first-Degree College in the Srikakulam District by the then Madras State Government G.O. No. : 1887. The College had initially started with intermediate courses. The College rose to status of Degree College in 1954 as per G.O. No. : 766, Dated: 02-07-1954 and P.G Courses from 2005.
The Department of Commerce was started along with B.A Courses in 1954 under the control of Andhra Pradesh University, Visakhapatnam. Ever since the starting of commerce, the department has grown from strength to strength to prosper as the center of academic excellence, serving the educational needs of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam Districts also. The department has opened section in Telugu Medium also from the 1971. Hindi was the Second language for B.Com. Students and from the year 1971, Telugu along with Hindi was introduced as the second language.
